About

FAITH

has been the sustaining force of the “black family” in America. Throughout history, the traditional black church with its emphasis on the saving grace of God, and on Christ as liberator, has been the backbone of our constant struggle for freedom. The fact that a people can survive, grow, and indeed become stronger in this world, can only be a sign of the SPIRIT OF GOD, working in them. With God as our leader, the journey of Christ Cathedral Baptist Church began.

The charter for Christ Cathedral Baptist Church was filed with the Secretary of State on June 22, 1978. The first Pastor was, Rev. Adolphus C. Ross.

In the beginning, services were held on Saturdays in the basement of the “New Alpha Progressive Church” at 113th and King Drive. Later, services were held at “St. Mathias Episcopal Church” at 111th St. and Indiana Avenue. From there, we shared the facilities of the “Seventh Day Adventist Church of Morgan Park” at 110th and Vincennes Avenue.

By the grace of God, on October 28th, 1982, we were able to purchase our current building. Our dream had become a reality. On the first Sunday in November 1982, we held our first service here at 445 West 111th Street.

We are a Faith-based organization dedicated to providing
spiritual assistance to those who are in need.

On November 4th, 2004 God blessed us with our present Pastor, our own beloved Pastor Edward Lindsey.

Before coming to Christ Cathedral, Pastor Lindsey was pastoring True Word Missionary Baptist Church, located in Markham, IL. At the bidding of the “Holy Spirit, “ we extended an invitation to Pastor Lindsey requesting that he pastor Christ Cathedral, and requested, if possible, the two churches, Christ Cathedral and True Word combine and become as one under his leadership.

This was done, and on November 7, 2004, we held our first service together as ONE BODY IN CHRIST.
